About the Item

Ceramic vase turned on the lathe, signed Franco BUCCI for Laboratorio Pesaro ORIGIN Italy PERIOD 60's DESIGNER Franco BUCCI Franco Bucci was born in Colbordolo, in the province of Pesaro, in 1933 where he graduated from the 'Ferruccio Mengaroni' Art Institute, graduating as a Master of Art in the metals section where in 1954 he began his teaching activity, as a teacher of enamels on metal, which continues until 1968. In 1954 he founded together with Paolo Sgarzini and Vladimiro Vanni 'Mastro 3' a laboratory that produces enamelled copper objects. He approaches ceramics in the late 1950s, sharing the experience, with Federigo Fabbrini, of designers for the 'Villeroy & Boch' ceramic manufacturer. In 1958 Federigo Fabbrini, returned to Italy, invites him and Nanni Valentini to work in his laboratory. Between the late 1950s and early 1960s Franco Bucci was present at numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad and, in 1960, won a silver medal at the Milan Triennale. In 1961 he founded, together with other partners, including Nanni Valentini himself, the manufacture 'Laboratorio Pesaro', of which in 1966 he became artistic director, where he created a wide range of objects whose main stylistic connotation is purity and essentiality of form, combined with an absolute lack of color. In 1968 he ranked first at the National Ceramics Exhibition in Cervia. In 1970 he was called, together with Federigo Fabbrini, as a designer by the Villeroy & Boch ceramic industry. In 1972 he obtained official recognition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, returned to Italy and agreed to work as a designer of the 'Iris Ceramics Group'. In the eighties he worked in his Pesaro studio in Strada Romagna 45. In 1987 he began experimenting with the production of large monolithic ceramic slabs which led him to obtain, thanks to a mixture patented by him, slabs up to m. 2 x 1. In 1995 he sells the company, becoming artistic director until 1998, the year in which he opens a ceramic workshop where he creates unique pieces and in small series. In the following years he began a research on porcelain that led him in 2000 to patent another ceramic material highly resistant to fire and thermal changes. Among the collaborators of the last years of production we remember Loreno Sguanci. Franco Bucci died in Pesaro in 2002 after having built the Terracottas Museum in Fratterosa, a village with an ancient ceramic tradition, in the province of Pesaro.
