Fornasetti “Commedia” Ceramic Paperweight and Cup Pair

About the Item

“I have thus dressed ceramics, furniture, and things in signs, and in that way I have placed a message in every work — a small story that is sometimes ironic, obviously wordless, but audible to those who believe in poetry.” Piero Fornasetti Measurement: 40 cm - 16 inches Lenght, 40 cm - 16 inches Width, 95 cm - 37,5 inches Height A set of two ceramics, one stone paperweight, one small cup, from Fornasetti’s Commedia series. A delightful pair depicting Harlequin and his long arm, and Columbine. Hand painted graphic design transfer. Small rubbing losses to the transfer. Ceramics structurally sound. Both marked for the designer.

Portman Gallery is pleased to offer this pair of vintage mid-century lamps from Fornasetti in good vintage condition, re-wired for the USA. Shades sold separately. Is there anyone for whom graphic design, Milan, humour and tromp l’oeil combine for more easily than Piero Fornasetti? The house which still produces works of the highest quality is still in operation today. But the nerdiest collectors will appreciate the vintage material which has never been reproduced, in this case these red and black enamel transfer lamps. Please inquire if you’d like the silk string shades. Photos explain condition: small losses. “The disproportion between the objects and the settings where they are placed creates new, surreal atmospheres in which a lamp is as important as a building, a salt shaker is as important as a tower, a tabletop is as important as a piazza...
