Uccellacci - Vase 2/3
About the Item
Inhabitants of a bucolic atmosphere, in the sleeping sunrise of the countryside, three austere and recognisable figures appear against the sky. They are daring birds, ancient and familiar souls. The rooster and the hen are symbols of a common and upcoming past. Protectors of a rural acquaintance, neither watered down nor tamed, they are the ceramic Uccellacci (Bad Birds).
The collection originates from the breakdown of these animals into simple geometries. Inspired by the tradition of the Galletti di Vietri and by the drawings of Pablo Picasso’s Gallo, those creations explore the
balance stretching between nostalgia and contemporary design.
Rooster and chickens are represented in this project as symbols of the rural heritage, values and territories. Arianna De Luca attempts to narrate and describe the countryside and rural lands, both from a cultural and territorial point of view, by using the “Uccellacci” as main characters.

Arianna de Luca:
Arianna De Luca was born in Abruzzo (Italy), between hills and the sea, in a region that harmoniously combines folklore and nature. After studying Industrial Design in Italy and London, where she obtained an MA from Central Saint Martins, Arianna became captivated by ceramics after years dedicated to interior design. She decided to delve deeper into the rich heritage of Castelli's artisans, in her homeland, where she discovered a world of ancient techniques and processes passed down through generations. With a coherent and personal approach, Arianna honours the local traditions and elevates them into the contemporary realm, enriching her work with a distinctive pop, bold, vibrant and colourful character. To populate the domestic landscape, Arianna shapes her ceramics with bright and vivid colours to accentuate forms and contrasts. Her objects are real characters, with their own souls and personalities. They become cherished presences, enriched with singular details that evoke multifaceted memories. Paying homage to Mediterranean elements and celebrating the Italian heritage, Arianna's objects stand out in the domestic environment by transforming archetypes of tradition into fun, colourful, bold figures. Through the careful selection of brilliant colours and primitive forms, supported by a strong artisanal technique, these special inhabitants emanate a powerful energy that seamlessly translates nostalgia and the past into an innovative and distinctive contemporary decor.
