Large 19th Century Italian Majolica Cantagalli Platter

About the Item

Italian Cantagalli Faience Polychrome Serving Platter, 19th century As found Italian Serving platter from Cantagalli. Wonderful example of antique Italian Majolica pottery circa 1880. Decorated with blue, orange and yellow flowers with swirling green foliage. Signature Rooster or Cockerel marking on the back of platter. Ulysse Cantagalli produced highly decorative Italian ceramics in the Renaissance style. He devoted his artistic energy to the understanding of the techniques and the designs of the old masters and important ceramic centers. His ability to master the ruby and golden luster techniques of Mastro Giorgio Andreoli brought the factory to fame, particularly in Britain. Cantagalli died in 1901 and the Cantagalli factory closed in 1985.
