French Faïence Longchamp Pompadour Hand-Painted Asparagus Plate

About the Item

A French earthenware, majolica glazed asparagus plate, molded by Longchamp in the Pompadour pattern, circa 1890-1910. Seven raised asparagus glazed in turquoise and lavender lay across the centre of the plate forming a deeper sauce well on either side. Hand-painted floral bouquets dot the rims, each different, making each plate unique. Different examples are pictured. Book reference – ‘Artichauts et Asperge in Barbotine’ by Maryse Bottero , pg. 53 9.75 in. Diam. x .75 in. H – Not all plates show the makers mark. Multiple plates are available, offered individually. All show the expected signs of surface wear seen in faïence without chipping or cracking.
