Cenedese Style Pair of Vintage Murano “Vetro Sommerso” Vases

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. A colorful and lively pair of glass vases; they were created in a small furnace in Murano (Italy) using the “vetro sommerso” technique; the contrast of the colors used give us a fantastic color palette; their lenticular bottle shape makes them slender and pleasant. The“vetro sommerso”(Submerged glass) was first invented in Murano in the late 1930s but became popular in the 1950s thanks to the skill and inventiveness of the Murano master craftsmen. In this type of workmanship, the glass consists of a layer of varying thickness to which one or more layers of different colors are superimposed by heat, obtained by immersing the glass in crucibles of different colors. The artifact is thus formed of several layers of different thickness and colors to create incredible chromatic effects and decorations within the object itself. The two vases were created by skilled craftsmen between 1960 and 1965 who worked outdoors for the Ars Cenedese firm and were inspired by the beautiful production of this famous company. Founded in 1946, Ars Cenedese Murano, thanks to the high quality and exclusivity of its production, soon established itself internationally as one of the most prestigious companies on the island of Murano, the world capital of handmade art glass. On the one hand, he continued the ancient tradition of Murano glass - with blown glass, chalices, vases, plates, and Venetian chandeliers - and on the other he welcomed the suggestions of contemporary art, establishing intense relations with the artistic and cultural environment of the time. He, therefore, participated in various editions of the Biennale, the Milan Triennale, and other important international exhibitions, collaborating with various artists. In the 1950s, it availed itself of the stable contribution of personalities such as Napoleone Martinuzzi, a sculptor, and, from the 1960s, Antonio Da Ros, with whom it developed new creations and techniques. Company Cenedese works in close collaboration with internal and external glassworkers, constituting one of the largest employment complexes in Murano. We are pleased to quote a sentence written by Simone Cenedese, the founder of the company, to testify to the great love and passion that the people of Murano have for their magical work: "I perceive it walking through the calli of Murano, looking at the colors of the houses, the fire in the furnaces, the smell of the forges, the hands of the Masters, the shapes reflected in the water, EVERYTHING IS GLASS". Measures high vase width cm.17, depth cm.7, height cm.26, low vase width cm.14, depth cm.5, height cm.21. The vases are in good condition. What may appear to be small defects inside or outside the glass (bubbles, lumps, streaks, etc.) are instead evidence of craftsmanship and not the result of modern molding operations. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
