French Art Deco Emile Galle Cameo Glass Cicada Banjo Vase, circa 1923

An ultra rare Art Deco Emile Galle 'Banjo' vase, depicting a Cicada resting on a fruiting olive branch in brown and green over yellow/orange, signed in cameo (see picture 3) -Provost Mark V -see chart -last picture. In the archives of Galle this rare design is documented as being by Rouppert c1923/4 -chief designer at the time (1920-1924) Emile Galle Cameo Banjo vases (so called because they vaguely resemble that shape) are amongst the most collected of Emile Galle shapes with many collectors only buying this form. Also one of the most collected areas of Galle is ones depicting bugs, insects and other critters -Cicada are amongst the rarest Emile Galle was probably the greatest glass maker of all time
