Murano Mid-Century Ruby Glass Bird Mounted Twin Candlestick
About the Item
An unusual and stunning Italian Venetian mid-century ruby glass bird mounted twin candlestick made on Murano. The candlestick is of simple form raised on a simple round domed base with a thick U formed twisted glass rod supporting two candle holders with glass bowl shaped wax drip trays. A solitary bird is perched on the centre of the U. The body of the candlestick is made in ruby tinted glass with the bird modelled looking backwards with its tail feathers spread with nice detail and good proportion in clear glass with gold aventurine inclusions. Possibly made at Salviati the candlestick is not marked and customary to these hand-crafted pieces the base has a central snapped pontil mark.
Provenance: From a small collection of similar pieces acquired from the UK Art Market.
The candlestick is in good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
