Edward Bingham Castle Hedingham Arts & Crafts Medieval Style Pottery Hunting Jug
About the Item
An unusual Arts & Crafts castle Hedingham Pottery hunting jug in the medieval style designed by Edward Bingham (British, 1829-1914) and dating between 1864 and 1901. Edward Bingham was inspired by medieval and Tudor wares and he hand produced an assortment of pottery wares, mostly unique. This early example is of a handled jug, the handle decorated with horseshoes, depicting hounds in pursuit of a stag applied in relief around the lower body. The jug is of cylindrical shape with a narrower neck applied with scroll designs and above a leaf applied shoulder and with a large shaped pouring spout. The jug is painted in muted brown and green tones and has a raised castle mark and is incised In England is numbered 40.
