Old Hall Drabware Ceramic Jug with Female Cardinal Virtues Figures

About the Item

Very unusual and rare English earthenware drabware jug finely molded in relief with female figures portraying six of the Cardinal virtues made by Old Hall Earthenware Co Ltd in Hanley and dating from the 19th century. This tall and impressive bulbous shaped jug stands on a rounded pedestal foot and is molded in relief with decorative arches each with a standing female figure, six in total and titled separately as follows: FAITH JUSTICE HOPE TEMPERANCE FORTITUDE and PRUDENCE. The figures are relief molded and exceptionally well detailed. The jug has an ornate shaped and molded handle and pouring spout. With molded and impressed makers mark to the base. In very fine presentable condition with a fine stress hairline running down the join of the spout and only visible inside the jug.
