Silver Water Pitcher with Japanese Flower Etching

About the Item

This elegant example of Aesthetic Movement silver was manufactured by ORF Silver Company. This decorative motif clearly displays the influence of Japanese art on Victorian design. The design of this pitcher suggests a date after the US Central Exhibition of 1876 where a lavish Japanese Pavilion featured the arts of Japan and fostered "The Japanese Craze," influencing decorative arts of all types. This lidded water pitcher features incised decoration of the Aesthetic Movement with its attention to flora in a Japanese style. It features beautifully etched peony flowers on the body of the piece with cast blossoms on both the handle and spout.
