Large 18th Century Pewter Charger
About the Item
This large broad rimmed pewter charger measures 420 mm (16.5 inches) in diameter and stands 38 mm (1.5 inches) high. It is decorated on the rim with an engraved family crest, that of a boar with a spear in its mouth. The crest would probably be for a Scottish or a Welsh family. It is marked on the back with a crowned X, which is generally taken to be a sign of quality. Beneath that mark there is a row of four touchmarks, but they are so faint as to be unreadable. It is reasonably good condition. c 1750.
