"Nudes and Hounds", Unique and Striking Art Deco Low Bowl, 1920s, Italy

About the Item

Somehow charming and yet highly sophisticated and elevated, this footed, low bowl or plate features four tiers of lithe female nudes, each accompanied by a lean hound or dog on a leash. The entire scene is lighthearted and frothy -- both humans and canines are having a great time! The stylized figures show the clear influence of Gio Ponti, Guido Andlovitz and other Italian designers and ceramicists who were emerging in the 1920s. The piece is hand glazed in tones of green, gold and brown. It is signed on the reverse, though it is not clear which small studio produced this piece.
