Meissen Figurine group: Allegory of hearing (deriving from a series of five senses) Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark with Pommels on Hilts Model Number 2974 Former's Number 132 Painter's Number 48 First quality  Dating: made circa 1870 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo (made third quarter of 19th century) This figurine group was modelled by: Carl Christoph Punct (died 1765) / circa 1763. The sculptor was active at Meissen manufactory in period 1761 - 1765. He worked together with Johann Joachim Kaendler (died 1775), having created a large number of figurines' groups with children. Detailed description: Meissen Finest Group of a Shepherd's Couple / Allegory of hearing (Deriving from a series of five senses). -- the Shepherd's Figurines - man and woman clad in finest bucolic Rococo garments - gather next to a small leafy tree. ° the woman having sat down holds a ring on which a bird has taken place ° the man holds a bagpipe by which a goat is making music ° finally, a little monkey sits on ground - in front of figurines - , playing a flute It is obvious that these details are a reference to music and singing which are strongly connected to sense of hearing.
