English Creamware Tortoiseshell glaze tea caddy,
Whieldon-type,
With Silver Cover,
circa 1770
The creamware large tea caddy has a tortoiseshell drip glaze. The caddy has a rectangular shape with canted corners and a tapered shoulder rising to the circular neck. Now with a silver domed cover which is engraved with a central flowerhead and a cross-hatched octagonal surround with pendants at each corner.
Dimensions: 4 3/4 inches high x 3 1/4 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches deep; With cover, the caddy has a height of 5 inches; (12.07cm high x 8.26cm x 6.99cm deep. 12.7cm with silver cover).
