Brazilian Mid-Century Small Bowl #102 in Noble Wood by WoodArt

About the Item

Rare small bowl with handle carved in solid brazilian rosewood model 102 from the WoodArt catalogue. Two pieces available. Jean Gillon (1919-2007) was born in Romania, where he graduated in Architecture and Fine Arts. In 1956 he moved to Brazil, where he developed an impressive and vast work as an artist and multiple designer. Through his sensitive look at our tropical country, Gillon had a genuinely Brazilian production, such as the iconic Jangada armchair inspired by the rafts he saw in the sea in Bahia. In addition to furniture, rosewood objects produced by WoodArt, a company he founded in the 1960s, aimed at the international market, stand out. With his creativity, originality and Brazilian spirit, Gillon represented Brazil internationally, exporting furniture and objects made of our noblest wood to several countries and participated in fairs and events around the world. Jean Gillon prioritized three essential qualities in his pieces: functionality, comfort and beauty, as the WoodArt catalog announces. Together with a design of Brazilian cultural inspiration, made with noble and exotic raw material for foreigners - the rosewood from Bahia - these qualities of his work conquered the market. He participated in many exhibitions around the world and won several awards for his brilliant work as a designer. His works appear in museums, hotels, institutions and collections.
