About the Item

George 111 silver coffee jug, dated 1776, London, Makepeace & Carter. Heavy quality weighing 28.2 troy ounces, with a wicker handle. Made by the famous London silversmith partnership Robert Makepeace and Richard Carter. Decoration is typical for this period,large beading, acanthus leaf, and adam's style swags. Hallmarked top and bottom. These days it could also be used as a hot or cold water jug or for mulled wine. The crest is a clawed bird's foot with the motto "faithfull even until death".
