About the Item

A fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver waiter, an addition to our Georgian dining silverware collection. This impressive antique George III sterling silver waiter has a plain circular shaped, Classic Georgian English form. The surface of this waiter is plain and unembellished. The raised shaped border is embellished with applied scrolling decoration to the rim accented with simplified lobed shell designs to each curved portion. This waiter in sterling silver is supported by three impressive hoof style feet. This impressive waiter was assayed in London and crafted by the renowned Newcastle silversmith Robert Makepeace who was in partnership with Richard Carter, these makers were registered in January 1777 and the date letter 'a' pertains to 1776, it can be determined due to the hallmarking system this piece was one of the first items of silver created using this maker's mark. Condition This antique Georgian waiter is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition in keeping with age. The applied decoration is sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the waiter are all very clear. Dimensions Diameter 18.2 cm/7.2". Diameter of surface 14 cm/5.5". Height 2.6 cm/1". Weight 8.4 troy ounces/261g. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver bread dish; an addition to our dining silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver dish has a plain oval boat shaped form. The body of this impressive English silver bread dish is embellished with bands of fine and impressive pierced vertical pale decoration, flanking oval floral medallions. The ornamentation to the body incorporates bright cut engraved floral and foliate festoons, suspended from the aforementioned medallion designs. The upper rim of the dish is encompassed with a paralleling applied thread decorated border. The well of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished. Either end of this antique dish features a cast sterling silver handpiece, ornamented with foliate decoration to a plain rounded terminal.
