About the Item
Set of unusual Spanish crab boxes in solid silver
Spanish, 20th Century

The delightful boxes in this set of four are crafted from silver in the distinctive form of crabs. Each box is naturalistically modelled as a crab, complete with legs, claws, and other anatomical details. Each features a hinged back, which opens to reveal a polished, hollow compartment. The pieces can serve as purely decorative adornments, or could function as salt and pepper pots. Two of the crabs are marked with standard Spanish hallmarks, and one is engraved ‘LOS VIEIROS’.
