Grainger Worcester Tea Set, Rococo Revival, Sevres-Style Birds, circa 1830
Located in London, GB
This is a tea set produced by Grainger Worcester in circa 1830, which was the Rococo Revival era. The set is decorated with birds and consists of a teapot, teapot stand or cake plate and two narrow cups and saucers. Grainger was one of the leading factories in Worcester in the 19th century. It started in the early days of British bone china production at the very beginning of the century, and was merged with Royal Worcester about 100 years later. During this era they were among the leaders of china production, producing exceptionally finely painted and sculpted forms, often jewelled, pierced or reticulated and decorated with exceptional art work. This set is potted in the Rococo Revival style and closely resembles tea services made by Henry Daniel - Grainger was known for making close and very nice imitations of the first class designs by Daniel. The teapot has a nice handle with a large thumb rest and a collared rim. The cups, which are probably coffee cups as they are narrow, have beautifully shaped "rustic bean" handles that closely resemble Henry Daniel's designs of that era. The items are simple white with beautifully hand painted birds in the Sevres style, as well as gilt vine motif. The rims are gadrooned, as was popular around this time. An image of the teapot shape and pattern 1681 (although a more luxurious version with feet, which this teapot doesn't have) can be found in Michael Berthoud's "An Anthology of British Teapots...

New Hall Porcelain Tea Service, Chinoiserie Flower Sprays, Georgian, circa 1795

Meissen Porcelain Pink Roses Coffee Service and Embossed Decorations '11 Cups'
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Rare Meissen porcelain coffee service in Biedermeier style; the set consists of a teapot, a sugar bowl, a milk jug, and 11 cups with plate; the various pieces are made of fine hand-painted hard white porcelain with the "Pink Roses" decoration enriched on all items with sumptuous unpainted relief decorations. Unlike the simple and quite common "Pink Roses", this model is very rare, prestigious, and sought after, therefore even more expensive; in fact, the objects with this relief decoration, much more particular and detailed than others, were fired three times, while those with only the "Pink Roses" decoration only twice. Moreover, the execution of this ornamental motif with delicate and graceful flowers was entrusted only to the most experienced and skilled painters, those in possession of the prestigious diploma obtained at the "School of Drawing of Meissen" established since 1764. The knobs of the teapot and sugar bowl represent two harmonious and graceful rosebuds, also handmade; the edges of the cups and saucers are scalloped and finished with pure gold as well as the other decorations of the teapot and sugar bowl. All pieces bear the original Meissen trademark (two crossed swords) and from the enclosed list it can be stated with certainty that our service was produced between 1934 and 1944; moreover, on the objects the model is handwritten (61/106), this wording makes the artifacts even more precious and appreciated as they preserve all the characteristics of the author's calligraphy. Meissen porcelain was created in the castle of Albrechtsburg, in Meissen, a small town in Saxony near Dresden, in 1710, at the behest of Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), Prince-Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, who wanted to start production after the studies and experiments of his alchemist Bottger. Bottger discovered the formula for porcelain, in fact at that time, only the Chinese and Japanese had the recipe to create this wonderful material; Meissen was, therefore, the first porcelain produced in Europe! Bottger never revealed his formula to anyone, only a certain stage was known to the workers; we do not know, even today, in what proportions the different components are mixed; this is the great secret that allowed the famous brand to be considered the best in the world, Meissen porcelain is given the nickname of "white gold"! Through the years, Meissen has perfected its hard-paste products with high-temperature firing during its glazing. Meissen's porcelain patterns have been copied by many other manufacturers around the world such as Royal Copenhagen, Dresden, Herend, and many others, but Meissen's porcelain glaze maintains its quality over time and is superior to all (plates will not scratch with prolonged use of cutlery!). This is why even old Meissen...

Derby Orphaned Coffee Can, White, Landscape by Zachariah Boreman, ca 1790
Located in London, GB
This is a very rare and stunning little orphaned coffeecup made by Derby in about 1790. The cup has a white ground, simple gilt rims and a stunning named mountain landscape painted by Zachariah Boreman. The Derby factory, later reshaped into Royal Crown Derby, is currently the oldest British porcelain factory still in production. Derby was one of the most prominent potteries right from the start of English porcelain production in the mid 1700s to today. Their items are of exceptionally high quality and many of the designs have become iconic, particularly the Imari designs; many of these are still being made today. Derby made many exciting designs in the Regency era, and this cup, which would have belonged to a large tea service, is a beautiful example. The marking at the underside indicates that the cup was produced some time between 1782 and 1800, however the style is from the mid-1790s. Zachariah Boreman was one of the most celebrated painters at Derby. He arrived at Derby around 1774 after working at Chelsea, and remained until 1794, when he left in frustration with Michale Kean, the owner. Even though Boreman became one of the prime landscape painters at Derby, Kean would not pay him more and this caused Boreman to go back to London and work for the Simms decorating studio. Boreman was most probably influenced by Paul Sandby, the chief drawing...
