Victorian Silver Batchelors' Tea Service with Lobed and Acanthus Decoration

About the Item

This charming set would be ideal for a single discriminating tea drinker. It comprises: the teapot, the sugar basin and matching milk jug. Though small, it has a wonderful feeling of skillful quality. Hall Marked Silver London 1887 by Wakely and Wheeler. In outstanding condition.

    A fine and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver three piece tea service/set; part of our Victorian silver teaware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver three piece tea set consists of a teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug / creamer. Each piece has an inverted pear shaped form on to a domed spreading foot. The upper portion of each piece is embellished with a broad band of bright cut engraved interlacing scroll and leaf decoration accented with stylised shell designs. The decoration to the body of each component incorporates two shaped, scroll decorated cartouches: one of which is vacant, the other displaying a bright cut engraved crest of a talbot*. The teapot is fitted with a hinged domed cover encircled with a band of bright cut engraved strapwork style decoration. The cover retains the original and impressive, hallmarked cast sterling silver stemmed floral finial. The fine teapot spout is ornamented with concave fluted decoration to the lower portion in addition to scrolling leaf designs extending up to the lip. The teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl are all fitted with impressive C scroll handles ornamented with acanthus leaf decorated thumbpieces.     An exceptional, fine and impressive, composite antique Victorian English sterling silver four-piece tea and coffee service/set; part of our silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian four-piece sterling silver tea and coffee service consists of a coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug. Each piece has a pear shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. The pieces of this Victorian tea and coffee set are embellished with embossed panels in a swirl design, accented with bright cut engraved segmented quatrefoil leaf motifs on a textured background. One side of each piece incorporates a circular cartouche displaying the engraved initial 'B'. The upper rims are encompassed with plain applied moulded borders. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with domed hinged hallmarked covers reflecting the identical decoration as that to the body.
