German Antique Handmade Salt Glazed Fruit Patterned Stoneware Bottle

About the Item

An exceptional and unusual antique German salt glazed hand worked stoneware bottle decorated with stylised fruit designs dating from the 19th century. The bottle is of square shape with rounded corners and has a narrow rounded neck. The bottle is decorated to two sides with panels containing incised stylised fruit in tones of brown and black on a brown ground and set within a decorative border with a simple zig zag pattern down the other two sides. The bottle has a natural salt glazed finish and is marked 'Handarbeit' (handmade) to the base and has an incised number 508. In good condition with wear commensurate with age and use.
