Ayotunde Ojo - Reclining

About the Item

Ayotunde Ojo’s presented works chronicle intimate, domestic snapshots of the every day. Working largely in the mode of self-portraiture, Ojo renders the body in moments of respite and stillness. “I am drawn to the idea of solitude and the melancholy that often accompanies these moments within a lived space,” he shares. “I am interested in making paintings that contemplate the silent conversations that occur between self and space.” With textural brushstrokes, subdued colors, and the surreal rendering of inanimate objects as seemingly translucent, Ojo’s scenes present as dream-like. Alive with reflective light and distinctive in their angular use of line, his practice centres a stark vulnerability and expression of form.
