Large Antique Brienz Black Forest Whimsical Bear & Cub Wooden Folk Art Carving

About the Item

This sizeable antique folk art carving is unsigned, but presumed to have originated from the Brienz area of Switzerland and date to approximately 1880 and done in the period Black Forest style. The carving is done in pine and depicts and standing adult bear holding a naughty cub under one arm and a corn broom high above the head with an outstretched arm. The carving is well executed and shows considerable detail from all sides. Pleawse note the restoration issues identified below.

    Replacements made: The broom handle has been replaced. Repaired: There was several age cracks that have been filled. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Some light wear to the edges of the base as presented in the photos and consistent with age and use. Please note that the sculpture has been stained.
