Ngabandi Yakoma Shield

About the Item

This is a very fine early 20th century Fighting Shield from the Ngabandi Yakoma people of Congo. Slightly smaller but exquisitely created by a master craftsman. The Ngabandi people were fierce warriors and feared in the region. They were also skilled craftsmen creating elaborate weapons and shields. This example is very decorative aswell as collectable . A fine statement piece. Created from tightly woven hardened wicker ready to take any blow from any opposing weapon. The piece was brought from Congo in the late 1930's by a Belgian family working in the region and has been stored carefully for decades , hence the fine condition of the piece.
