Antique French Islamic Glass Enamel Gilt Mamluk Revival Mosque Lamp Brocard 1880

About the Item

This very fine antique Mamluk style mosque lamp, most likely by Phillippe-Joseph Brocard (1831-1896), made in Paris circa 1880. The hand-blown glass lamp having a bulbous body with a tapered neck & flaring mouth, standing on a compressed foot. The neck decorated with two bands of gilding with pseudo script & alternating red & green circular devices. the neck also having a large blue band of blue continuous Thuluth script on a red background. The base of the lamp also heavily gilded & having colorful floral decoration & hand-painted enamel raised 'gems', the lamp having three suspension handles punctuated with three large blue floral motifs on terracotta cartouche. The underside of the base is gilded & decorated with polychrome lappets, the lamp with a raised pontil mark to the base. The lamp is totally original & intact and presents very well, at some time it has been professionally reassembled. Similar lamps without restoration sell in the $30,000+ range!
