20th Century Vittoriano Viganò Floor Lamps Mod. 1047 for Arteluce, Early 50s

About the Item

Vittoriano Viganò was born in Milan in 1919. His training took place between the Classical Studies and the Faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico in Milan, where he graduated in 1944. After obtaining the qualification to practice the profession, he carries out a short period of apprenticeship at the BBPR studio and subsequently opens his own professional studio. Contextually he began his work at the University. Over the years he has developed research on the primary types of residence and services, museum and theater, and on the relationship between space and objectl. Great importance also had the cultural environment in which Viganò is formedl: through his father Vico, painter and engraver, Vittoriano comes into contact with the artistic environment, that will allow him later to experiment the intertwining of the arts, as for instance the activity with Institutions, first of all the Triennale, the architectural project, and the collaborations with the companies of the Lombard production system (Arteluce, just to cite an example). In 1950s Gino Sarfatti entrusted the artistic direction of Arteluce to Viganò who marked that period and the future of the firm with his own style. Here we have the iconic floor lamp model 1047 designed in '50s by Vittoriano Viganò for Arteluce with brass structure and painted aluminum diffuser. Published in: - Domus n. 261, settembre 1951, p. 31; - Giuliana Gramigna, Repertorio 1950/1980, Milano, 1985, p. 69; - Giuliana Gramigna and Paolo Biondi, Il Design in Italia dell'arredamento domestico, Torino, 1999, p. 459. • 20th Century Gino Sarfatti Arteluce Set of 3 Floor Lamps Mod. 1073 '50s
    By Gino Sarfatti, Arteluce
    Located in Turin, Turin
One of the most significant figures in the world of Italian design of the second half of the 20th century was Gino Sarfatti. Venetian by birth and Genoese by training, Sarfatti became Milanese in 1935, first collaborating with the lighting company Lumen and then founding Arteluce Società Anonima A.L. It was, however, the terrible period of racial laws and it was therefore necessary to wait until the end of the war for the company to begin full-scale production. In 1949, a factory was opened in Milan. It was here that Sarfatti succeeded in interpreting the taste of its customers: if a lamp on display was requested, several pieces of that model were made, without creating prototypes and never exceeding a few dozen copies. The store then became the meeting place for a refined group of architects and decorators who would use Sarfatti's lighting in the furnishings of the Milanese bourgeoisie. Here set of 3 floor...
