19th Century Franco-Russian Neoclassical Style Ormolu & Alabaster Chandelier
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A very fine and Rare 19th century Franco-Russian neoclassical revival style ormolu mounted white alabaster eight-light chandelier, possibly a design by Félix Chopin (French, 1813-1892). The ovoid carved alabaster plafonnier bowl, fitted with an ormolu decorative finial/rosette with a royal Fleur-de-lis design and four interior lights, surmounted with four-pairs of finely chased ormolu scrolled twin-light candelabra lights, each flanked on both sides with allegorical ormolu laurel branches and fitted with later frosted-glass flame shades; all suspended from a square ormolu canopy, centered with an acorn, by four ornamental gilt-bronze chains. Bearing spurious unknown and unverified stamped markings. Circa possibly Saint Petersburg, Russia, 1890. Félix Chopin (1813-1892) was a French bronze designer, the son of the Parisian fondeur Julien Chopin. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1838. Around 1841 he acquired the workshop of Alexander Guérin were he mainly designed and manufactured lighting fixtures, including chandeliers, candelabras, table lamps and torcheres. Chopin designed a chandelier for The Vladimir Hall, in the Grand Kremlin Palace, in Moscow and also designed a chandelier of the Tsarevich's in the Peterhof Palace in 1850, another chandelier for the Marble Palace in St. Petersburg (1849) and the palace of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich (1855-86) (ibid p. 168). He favored the 'French Rococo' style which gave him the freedom to experiment with exuberant and whimsical designs for Russian designers and marketplace, as well as for the Russian nobility. Chopin designed several art pieces with Eugene Lanceray...

Pair of French 19th-20th Century Neoclassical Style Cast Iron Figural Torchères
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A very fine pair of French 19th-20th century neoclassical style patinated cast iron figural torchères by A. Durenne, Paris, each representing a figure of a standing young maiden, her arms raised forward while holding a a flaming urn gas light (Now electrified) with a frosted glass flame, each raised on a veined grey marble column stand, both cast-signed 'A. Durenne, Paris'. Antoine Durenne was an internationally renowned French art founder. He attended École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1842. Durenne purchased a small foundry in Sommevoire, near the Val d'Osne, Haute-Marne, France and established The Durenne firm, circa Paris, 1900. Cast-iron had been in production during the 18th century but its inferior status to the more fashionable and delicate wrought iron had generally confined its use to architectural work. By the early 19th century, however, rapid developments of the Industrial Revolution combined with the simultaneous burgeoning of a new middle class provided the impetus for a dramatic Expansion in its application and in a short space of time a proliferation of iron foundries across Europe and America thrived on the production of everything from inkstands to railway stations. The use of cast-iron for garden ornament became particularly widespread at this time, as the possibilities for its mass-production at a fraction of the cost of bronze made it the material of choice for outdoor statuary...

19th Century Gothic Bronze Incense Burner ~ Chandelier
Located in Dallas, TX
19th century Gothic Bronze Incense Burner ~ Chandelier is a remarkable example of the art of the metalsmith, rendered in solid bronze to last for centuries! At some point it was wired in Europe but it has not been rewired for use in the USA. Starting at the bottom, a trefoil appears, which along with the motifs emanating up to the main circular body of the chandelier, stand for the Holy Trinity. The words are inscribed in Latin around the hoop "Christ is Light", positioned in between the six shield crests that project outwards topped with a crown and embossed with a stylized INRI representing the placard that was placed over Jesus during his crucifixion. The main body is enhanced with geometric repeating coin forms all around behind the shields, with the same three-pointed cross motif both above and below. The entire affair is suspended by the original chain sections alternating between orb-shaped links and twisted rods. All connect to the crown above, also decorated with the same cross motifs as seen below. What an incredible work of devotional art...

Large Gothic Revival Medieval Wrought Iron & Cathedral Glass Pendant / Lantern
Located in Lisse, NL
All handcrafted, hexagonal Gothic light lantern. If you are a collector of rare and ancient looking Gothic antiques then this good size and possibly one of a kind pendant could be flying your way soon. With antique light fixtures as one of our specialties, we know how rare Gothic lanterns are and we are certain this fine specimen will find its way to a good home too. Also, because this all hand-crafted, Gothic Revival pendant completely original and in very good condition. The natural wear has only made this rare fixture more beautiful and its authentic, Medieval look and feel will never fail to impress. It may have originally hung in the entrance of a home in France or maybe above the main entrance of a medieval style chateau or castle, we are not sure. What we are quite certain of is that it is highly unlikely that we or you will ever find another one like it. The stylized Gothic rosettes above and below the Gothic church window-like panels in all six sides are just some of the wonderful features that make this work of lighting art so authentic and desirable. This light even comes with the original, antique cathedral glass...
