Early 20th Century French Zinc Urn Lamp from the Estate of Bunny Mellon
About the Item
This urn made in France was produced as a decorative object circa 1920. Designed as a Louis XVI style urn with classical rams head handles the large-bodied urn rests on a raised block set up on a stepped base. Once possibly painted in a marbled fashion with gilt trim (when disassembled for wiring the lamp shows traces of these things within fitted areas and at the edges) and details the zinc urn has weathered and now shows a distressed rusticated grey /white finish usual for zinc after long exposure to the elements or water and wear. Of a large scale, this piece is well proportioned and dramatic. It has been fully rewired with silk wrapped wire and has all new electrical parts since the old ones were just to far gone to effectively use.
