Antique Late 19th Century Pale Gold Northern French Louis Philippe Mirror

About the Item

A beautiful and rare antique mirror that was made in northern France in the 1880s. The mirror frame has upper rounded corners typical for the Louis Philippe style. The most elevated part of the frame features a delicate engraved geometric cross pattern and a classic pearl beading surrounds the glass. The mirror frame has a two-tone partially pale gold finish. The outer mold and the most elevated part have an almost black undercoat and the silver leaf was polished to obtain a metallic gloss. The gold color was made by applying a yellow patina over silver leaf gilding. The rest of the frame has a sap green undercoat, with yellow / gold painted patina over it. Throughout the years, the silver leaf has faded a little and the frame has built up a great patina and age-appropriate wear. The mirror plate is authentic as well as the pine back cladding. The mirror plate is silver nitrate silvered and shows beautiful wear across the plate. The mirror is in great antique condition and has an exceptional and rare natural gold color. The mirror plate was removed from the frame and the whole piece was gently cleaned. The mirror is now clean, solid, and ready for use.
