Antique Pair of Dutch Architectural Oeil de Boeuf Mirrors in Painted Zinc

About the Item

Available for purchase is a rare pair of antique architectural zinc windows, known as "oeil de boeuf" or "bull's eye." Derived from historical architectural terminology, this French phrase translates to "cow's eye," representing a distinctive window style. These windows, characterized by their small round, oval, or octagonal shape, typically adorn the façades or pediments of buildings. During the 17th century and later, these windows were prevalent in (Amsterdam) canal houses, often set within sandstone frames. In Latin, an "oeil de boeuf" is referred to as an "oculus." Crafted from zinc and elegantly painted in natural white bone color, these windows have been skillfully repurposed into mirrors by our team whilst leaving the authentic paint layer intact. The mirrors are clean, solid, and ready for use. Capture the essence of architectural history with this exceptional pair of converted zinc windows, reimagined as stunning mirrors. Displaying intricate craftsmanship and historical allure, these mirrors will add a unique touch to any space.
