Italian 17th Century Louis XIV Period Double Framed Giltwood Mirror

About the Item

A rare and extremely high quality Italian late 17th/early 18th century Louis XIV period double framed giltwood mirror, from the famous Palazzo Borghese. The grand scale and statement making mirror retains all of its original mirror plates throughout all framed within a stunning array of meticulously carved patterns and designs. At the base are handsome finely detailed winged dragons set amidst spectacular luxuriantly scrolled foliate movements with a charming central palmette. The straight frames lead up upwards decorated with fine Les Oves carved patterns and adorned with lavish scrolled acanthus leaves with lovely blooming flowers. Above the palatial arched shaped central plate is a magnificent and most impressive eagle with richly carved plumage and exceptional attention to detail. The eagle is perched on a striking scrolled element and set in front of a superb and extremely decorative lattice design with unique dagger like elements. Above and at each corner are additional remarkable pierced scrolled foliate giltwood movements set on the original mirror plates. Exquisite quality and exceptional attention to detail throughout.
