Vintage French Tufted Leather Queen or Full Size Curved Wood Frame Headboard

About the Item

A gorgeous, vintage 1940s, or perhaps earlier, French tufted green gray leather headboard. The curve of the headboard envelopes the head of the mattress and gives this piece such character. Note the beautifully carved center fleur element and curved feet. A rare find and would create a beautiful centerpiece in any bedroom. The wood frame is painted an antique white accented with grey stain and distressed from usage, see photos. Metal tacks are all original, none are missing. Slight craquelure in the surface of the leather from age but it is still strong and stable. See photos for surface wear on leather commensurate with age and use. The construction of the headboard would accommodate either a full or queen mattress. The last two photos show how the headboard can be used with a queen size mattress, box spring and traditional metal bed frame. Flip the bed frame around 180 degrees and raise the box spring up slightly and push in so it sits on the wood cross piece of the headboard. Then push the mattress into the headboard. This creates a sturdy arrangement without bolting the headboard to the bed frame. These photos were shot with a 13" thick Tempurpedic mattress and an 8" tall box spring. The bed frame horizontal rail is 7 and a half inches from the floor. The distance from the floor to the top of the white horizontal wood panel where the leather tufting begins is 21.5 inches. The distance from the floor to the top of the horizontal wood bar where the box spring rests in the above arrangement is 8 inches.
