Life-Size Antique Articulated Child Lay Figure

About the Item

This mid-1800s child is a “mix” between an early articulated artist model and a lay figure mannequin. It must have been made by special request because there is no other example known like it. An articulated mannequin or artist’s model in a child’s size is extremely rare. In addition this child mannequin is covered with the fabric layers as a lay figure but it has the style of an articulated one. The hands are unique as well. On most lay figures the whole body is covered with the fabric, but on this one the hands never were…only the wooden fingers have the original fabric. If you look closely there are metal twist adjustments at the joints. The paper mâché head is very well done and it has glass eyes.

It was recently found tucked away in a barn for over 20 years and is fresh to the market. A handful of Auzoux full size horse...
