"Penthouse, " Perfume Group by Lelong in Art Deco Box, Unusually Fine Condition

About the Item

Although the perfume industry in France and America embraced the new streamlined and geometric styles of the 1920s and 30s -- which we would call Art Deco today -- and commissioned perfume bottle designs from René Lalique and other leading designers of the day, it is rare to find a presentation box that takes on a high style Art Deco architectural form, as here. Lucien Lelong, who started in high fashion years earlier, started to produce perfumes in the 1920s, his line of scents culminating here in the presentation of three perfumes -- Indiscrete, Tailspin and Taglio -- in tiny bottles, all nestled in a paperboard box that recalls high-fashion apartment buildings in Paris, New York and Miami Beach. Each of the bottles retains a remnant of perfume, and the box itself is in unusually fine condition.
