Caja De Musica Music box by Acoocooro Dimensions: W 54 x D 54 x H 119 cm. Materials: Hand-carved solid oak wood table/pedestal and box; Corian resin box cover; steel and solid wood mechanical components. Concheros’ music, predominantly percussive, is unique by means of its sounds and its rythms, more than its melody or its harmony. It is atmospheric, cyclical, and repetitive. The music box reproduces and reinterprets many of the concheros’ sounds and instruments: shells, strings, and drums, also mirroring the ritual’s syncretic nature. In Ceremonia, the music box is also the bridge between the spectator and the mysticism of the ritual. By turning the handle, the spectator becomes more than just an observer. The handle, which resembles a rattle’s handle, draws the spectators directly into the ceremony and makes them agents, active participants. Founded in 2017 by Martín Diego Salido-Orcillo and Antonio Mendoza Bravo, ACOOCOORO is a furniture, lighting and artifacts studio, a lab, focused on aesthetic and historic research, on objects' narrative and emotional relation with individuals and space. Every object, every piece, more than a product in a collection, is the result of exploration and experimentation through materials, processes and artisanal work. These elements fill every one of them with history, stories and memories: those of the individuals that conceive and create them, and those of the people that live their lives through and with them. Silent Design, finally, is a guiding principle in ACOOCOORO's practice, whenever the collaboration with artisan groups is involved, with a complex yet clear goal: the establishment of non-extractive, cooperative, self-sufficient relations, where craftsmanship, economic benefit, authorship, property, and narrative are reclaimed by and rebalanaced in favor of the artisans themselves, and not the designers.
