Concert Grand Piano Alfred Waterhouse Arts &Crafts Aesthetic Movement Romanesque

About the Item

Art Cased Concert Grand by John Broadwood & Sons, Serial number 21658, Year 1882. Mahogany case by order of Sir Alfred Waterhouse (1830 - 1905) , a leading Architect of the Aesthetic Movement of the late Victorian era. Waterhouse designed only two pianos, one, with the Serial number 21657 is today in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the other one was deliviered to Waterhouse's home in 1882, and is now being offered by us on 1stdibs. This luxury piano is a great example of the Romanesque movement, in England at the end of the 19th century. One of the highlights are the three music stands in the Renaissance manner, evoking the golden English era of Dowland, Shakespeare and Elisabeth I. The legs are sculpted as Greek Ionic columns, in solid Mahogany. This piano is in original museum condition. The case is in great condition.
