Beautiful Baroque marble holy water font or stoup, Unique and original period piece. Italy, circa 1650-1750. Weathered condition. Measures: H:10,5cm W:21,5cm D:19-26cm.

Crucifix from the mid-1800s with a carved shroud or veil depicting Christ in the base. This unique and remarkable antique crucifix can both be used as a table and as a wall crucifix. Over the decades we have sold a number of unique and very well crafted crucifixes, but never one in the Baroque style with this combination of materials and techniques. The overall design and size is what stands out first, but the details and the materials are what make this antique work of religious art extraordinary. With four angels (or putti) watching over a sculpture of the Veil of Veronica, the relatively large base of this unique crucifix is a work of religious art in its own right. It is almost as if the cross is growing from this beautiful base and the cross itself too comes with a number of superbly hand carved details. To us, the most remarkable are the three stunning Baroque shells. With their symbolic meaning of birth and resurrection it is obvious why the artist / sculptor so tastefully incorporated them here. Apart from a minor 'lean' to the left, the cross itself too is in excellent condition. Stylish and meaningful work of art. This Christian work of art dates from the 1920s. Over the centuries wall crucifixes have been made in all kinds of sizes and shapes, but the ones from the Art Deco Era seem to be the most distinctive in style. Meaningful and perfectly hand-crafted antique church relic. This religious work of art dates from the earliest years of the 20th century and you could not wish for a better condition antique. This finest of holy water font plaques could not be in better condition, but that is also because it was all handcrafted out of the best materials only. Even the hand sawn, square nuts on the back are gilt. And the cross-like hook with the French Gothic fleur-de-lis ends with the ring on top (for easy mounting this gem to your wall) is another detail that shows us that no expense was spared when this antique was hand-crafted all those years ago.
