Royal Doulton Kingsware Tobacco Box with Lid

About the Item

Kingsware was developed by Charles Noke and produced between 1898-1939. No other factory in the world has been able to recreate the same lustrous finish, which makes Kingsware a unique and highly desirable collectable. The rich, brown effects of the Kingsware glaze were achieved by painting the design in the colored slip on the inside of the plaster of Paris mold, then the dark terra cotta slip was added to form the body. The transparent glaze was then fired over the finished piece, giving depth to the colors beneath.
