Antique Renaissance Wall Coat Rack Homage to Rembrandt & The Night Watch ca 1880

About the Item

Unique and incredibly stylish Dutch antique coat rack, celebrating 'De Nachtwacht'. This striking antique Dutch coat rack is special, practical and highly decorative. It is special and unique, because this Renaissance Revival wall coat rack was handcrafted in the late 1800s by an artist who clearly wanted to stress the importance of Rembrandt van Rijn in the history of Dutch painting. In this coat rack a Rembrandt sculpture carving is presented on either side. They are both hand carved out of solid oak and we believe they do justice to the way Rembrandt looked at the time he created his masterpiece, The Night Watch, around 1640. Since the 5 handcarved figures in the 5 back panels very much resemble some of the more prominent figures in the Night Watch we are certain that this Dutch antique pays homage to one of the best painters and one of the most impressive paintings (also size-wise) in the history of mankind. We would not go as far as saying that this coat rack too is an important antique, but it certainly is a rare and special piece (for obvious/mentioned reasons) and it could be the perfect talking piece for an antique paintings enthousiast, an art gallery, a small museum etc. On top of the decorative, historical and collectible aspect this finest quality workmanship coat rack also is in great condition and very practical to use. It comes with a pair of integrated, strong metal hooks on the back for safe and easy wall mounting and it comes with 4 large oak hooks and 5 smaller bronze ones that too are highly decorative, very strong and reliable. This antique can only be the work of a master craftsman (or rather several craftsman) and the warm patina of this antique work of beauty too is second to none. Finding antiques in this good a condition never ceases to amaze and motivate us. If you need more reasons not to let this rare and stylish antique get away from you: our price even includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum width x height x depth: 45.9 x 12.4 x 5.5 inches. Depth of the top shelf: 5.2 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
