Gothic Revival Quatrefoil Design Umbrella & Stick Stand w. Hand Painted Irises

About the Item

A fine work of Gothic Art depicting iris flowers, associated with the Passion of Christ and the Resurrection. This Gothic quatrefoil design umbrella stand is another one of our recent, unique finds. All handmade around 1900-1915 this weighty and quality antique stands as strong and stable as the day it was made. At some point in time the red painted wrought iron base and the upper rim have been touched up. Otherwise this stylish stand is entirely untouched and it even comes with the original, trefoil shaped 'drip-water reservoir' in the front part, which ofcourse is for umbrellas. The smaller rear section does not have such a reservoir and that is because that separate part is for walking canes. What (in our view) makes this antique extra appealing are the hand-painted, ireses on the outside. These ireses actually make this Gothic umbrella stand a unique and meaningful 'Gesamtkunstwerk', because ireses (in Christian symbolism) are associated with the Passion of Christ and the Resurrection. Probably because ireses bloom in spring around Easter. If you look at our close-up photos of these flowers then you can see that the flowers themselves are 'in-relief'. The Gothic quatrefoil design is unique and marvelous to look at, but what you can't see in our photos is that the quality of the structure of this handcrafted umbrella stand is unlike anything we have ever seen. Mind you, this stand is well over a hundred years old and it can easily be used and enjoyed for another century. If you like this unique antique as much as we do then maybe you should be its next custodian. Our fair price even includes perfect packing and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 days. Height x diameter 24.6 x 11.8 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for artistic and meaningful and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.
