Labirinto Green Carpet by Gio Ponti

About the Item

The symmetry of the pattern, the contrasts between the backgrounds, and the drawing bestow depth to the Labirinto carpet. An intriguing three-dimensional pattern originally designed by Gio Ponti to recreate a contemporary, yet classical, diamond texture. All Gio Ponti carpets are elegant and refined. The carpet plays with lighter and more pronounced features, blurred contrasts and hints of very bright colors. The simple geometries convey a sense of three-dimensionality and add depth to the carpet. The carpet (300 x 250cm) is entirely made of hand spun and hand carded Tibetan wool.

Monochromatic carpets are all the rage right now in interior design because they fit easily into any context. The specimen we present comes from an artisanal production in Afghanistan, hand-knotted with local wool using natural dyes. The non-uniformity of the color is due to the artisan method with which the wools are dyed, and it is precisely these irregularities that give life to the carpet by replacing the decoration and make it a vibrant carpet...

  • Belladonna hand knotted Carpet by Laroque Studio
    Located in Geneve, CH
Belladonna hand knotted carpet by Laroque Studio Dimensions: 130x105 cm Materials: wool Quality: 500.000 dots It would be nearly impossible to name just one idea that inspired collection 00. It started off with the periodic table of elements. I loved how this simple and yet well-classified structure arranges chemical elements with similar chemical behaviors into groups. Every element is like a code. That comparison instantly brought me back to our modern digital world - where letters and words are flying across borders. Invisible science but very precise. Somehow these two concepts merged into one. Rainbow, being a phenomenon, an optical illusion of light in water droplets not only brings something very poetic but also shows us how something magical can arise when two very different elements meet together. LAROQUE ST is a journey to a new discovery. The essence of our studio lies in constant experimentation with high-quality materials, exquisite artisanal craftsmanship and techniques. We look for elusive connections and new interpretations - we find new meanings and tell a story. The fluidity of our designs allows for any change in colors, materials, the scale of a pattern, the size and shape of the final product. With every new color or a new weaving technique begins a new journey. Knot by knot. It feels like a meditation. And yet this very complex process of carpet-weaving requires extremely high-skilled level of craftsmanship. The pile height can vary. A knot of silk may be found right next to a knot of wool. A palette of colors is infinite. Katy Pititskaya a founder & creative director of Laroque St*. Katy is an interior and product designer based in Moscow and Milan. She graduated from Moscow Architectural University with a degree in Architecture and has received a master’s degree in Interior and Living Design under the mentorship of Patricia Urquiola, from the Domus Academy in Milan.
