Large Moroccan vintage rug abstract design Berber Lilac Gray Teal North African.
A rare vintage Berber rug from the 1970s-1980s.
This stunning abstract design Berber rug was made in the 2nd half of the 20th century epoche. It has fantastic shiny and soft wool. It was hand knotted by women from the Atlas mountains. From the knot structure it is most likely to be made from the Beni Mguild tribe.
The soft and warm colour has variations of Lilac, gray and teal tones from the natural vegetable dyes. The condition is very autentic and nice. It has expected patina, faded colors Pile condition is excellent and full pile. These rugs were woven to be used as sleeping mats as well as floor coverings, which explains why they have long pile and are quite square in shape. They are also unique in that the weavers saw the pile side as the back of the carpet and the flat side as the front. You can see the glorious and complex designs and narratives by turning the carpet over. And the pile side will often be wonderfully shaggy, slightly obscuring the composition.
