About the Item
Beautiful vintage Persian Kerman Lavar area rug in a floral pattern from the late 1800s. The rug has a cream or pale yellow field and border color with curvilinear designs in red, black, and brown colors throughout. The village Lavar is near the city of Kerman on the edge of the great desert in South East Persia. The Kerman Lavar carpets are world-renowned for their beauty in design and colors used which this carpet well represents. The carpet still retains its beauty after over 120 years of use.
The village of Kerman is located at the edge of the great desert in SE Persia and was on the ancient silk road. It is known for some of the most beautiful and colorful rugs that were woven in Persia. The weavers used the color and flower designs in rugs to bring some color and nature’s beauty to the dry desert environment that they lived in.
