Pair Baronial 'Savonarola' Style Hall Chairs
About the Item
The 'Savonarola' style takes its name after the 15th Century Italian Monk Girolamo Savonarola. He was famed for leading the destruction of 'immoral art' and was eventually executed. He was frequently depicted seated in this style of chair.
The original style was made to be a portable folding chair but this is not the case in later reproductions which became popular in the 19th Century.
The Baronial style is reflected in the heavily carved walnut wood frame and rich velvet upholstery.
The chairs have been recently re-upholstered.
