Wrought Iron and Brass Curule Savonarola Chair, Mid-20th Century

Awesome vintage Spanish Revival Savonarola or Curule chair with velvety chenille fabric and hammered steel nail head details. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960-1970’s. This is a chair fit for a KING… or a QUEEN!!! This is an absolutely fabulous chair… some call it a Savonarola or Curule chair, it may also be known as a Renaissance or Dante style chair. All correct, and all very similar in style with slightly different features. It is palatial in structure with a wide U-shaped seat and frame with curved legs which create an X style base. It is comprised of gorgeous dark stained wood with horizontal turned spindles under the arms and turned stretchers on the base. The seat and back is upholstered in a fantastic gold striped velvety chenille fabric with hammered steel nail head details, and it has a carved flower motif in the center under the seat. It is sturdy, richly carved, and has a spacious, splendid design! It is Spanish Revival in style with a bit of Medieval or Renaissance Revival flair and it is sure to be an eye-catching piece in any room of your home. It would be wonderful in a corner of your bedroom, in the study across from the fireplace, or as an accent chair in the living room. It would be awesome in a game room surrounded with medieval or Renaissance décor...

POLYCHROMED WROUGHT-IRON AND SADDLE-LEATHER SAVONAROLA CHAIR With cerule form, probably early 20th century Item # 311ESB30P ** Sold individually, but we may have up to 4 of these chairs available ** A very compelling form, this classical "Savonarola" chair is crafted entirely by hand using forged iron that shows every trace of the blacksmith's work throughout the surface. They are in a cerule form with hammered spade feet, the legs joined with a central pivot point at the center of each cyma-curvature, this joint decorated with a wonderful iron rosette on both the front and back. The seat and seat-back are slung with leather that is affixed with rawhide lacing, the seat-back decorated with two beautifully formed finials with ruby-red and part gilt highlights to the surface. These are being sold individually, but we acquired these as a set of four and may still have several available. The images are of only one of the four chairs, but they are all identical in overall condition and form. We have three matching mid-century Italian made brass and painted wrought iron Savonarola chairs. Each chair frame is structurally sound and in its original white paint which is somewhat chippy. Upon request we can have repainted (or powder coated) the color of your choice. Original loose upholstered seat and stitched-on backrest cushions are in their original tired and distressed material; the wrought iron arms are covered in rouched sleeves. Our upholsterer can re-make or create new cushions per your specifications. Reach out to request suggestions.
