18th Century Italian Louis XV Carved Painted Eight, Leg Upholstered Canape

About the Item

This elegant, antique painted settee was crafted in Italy, circa 1780. The classic Italian, Louis XV style sofa features a shaped back with ear sides; the cushioned portions of the back and armrests are removable for easy re-upholstery, and are locked in with the original mechanisms which hold them in place. It sits on eight cabriole legs over a scalloped apron, and is carved throughout with fanciful acanthus leaf motifs, culminating in several main medallions along the skirt and one large medallion as the central focal point at the top of the middle of the back. The canapé is upholstered with a colorful floral fabric, embellished with sunflowers, poppies, gardenias, and other beautiful flowers. The sky blue, muted yellow, antique white, and mellow greens make the sofa a charming, happy, and unique centerpiece for any living room, entry way, bedroom, or sitting area. It is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use with a sophisticated, painted light cream finish and rustic brown accents throughout the carvings. Measures: 101.5" W x 29.5" D x 46" H.
