19th Century Carved Nutwood Ladies Chair with Stunning Green Man Sculpture

About the Item

Incredibly well crafted antique chair with the finest of details. This small size and unique ladies chair from the late 1800's is in beautiful and original condition. This Parisian chair is as stabile as the day it was made and it is very strong for it's small size, it can easily take my weight of appr. 180 pounds. The quality of the carvings and the details are impressive to say the least. The perfectly carved 'green man' symbol has been used in European, American and Asian cultures since 400 AD. It is a symbol for, among other things, fertility and the circle of life. This unique chair will look great behind an antique ladies desk, but also as a 'furniture still life' (as we call it) in a bedroom or in an entrance. This practical and top quality antique with perfect upholstery will never cease to amaze you or anyone visiting. Our fair price for this striking antique chair even includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days. Maximum height x width x depth: 33 x 14.2 x 15 inches. Seat height: 18.1 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. • 19th Century Aesthetic Movement X-Frame Chair w. Hand Carved Monkey Finials
    Located in Lisse, NL
Marvellous, early Arts & Crafts chair with human-like, monkey sculptures. I once learned that one of the goals of art is that it should trigger your imagination. Also, in the sense that it should make you ask yourself the question, what am I looking at and what does it mean (to me)? When I first saw this chair I immediately knew I was looking at a unique work of art and the artistic, human-like monkey sculptures lift it to a whole different level. Realizing that this chair is most likely created in the era of the British Aesthetic Movement around 1880, it came to me how the artist who created this piece could very well have been inspired by a book he may have read, 'on the origin of species' by Charles Darwin. My imagination led me to believe that reading about 'evolutionary biology' could very well have been the seed that was at the root of this marvellous and meaningful work of art. A work of art that lesser creative minds may simply call 'a chair'. Your imagination may tell you something very different and that is why this unique and very well preserved antique also is a great conversation piece. Our price for this 'Darwin chair...

  • Stunning Hand Carved Sulptural Hall Chair w. Gothic Chimera Dragon Sculptures
    Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and remarkable workmanship chair from the 1800s. In this day and age it is very difficult to still find even one craftsman that is capable of hand carving a good quality sculpture. As you can see in our photos, in the 1800s there were still artisans that were so skilled that they could actually incorporate several unique sculptures into a chair. This particular Italian hallway chair was made to decorate and to impress. And if you look at the quality and the perfect way in which the various creatures are incorporated in this chair then you know that this certainly was and still is a statement AND a talking piece. Everything is so well balanced that this chair with its great patina truly is a joy to own and look at. In the Neoclassical Revival era creatures and elements of different styles were mixed together and this work of beauty is the perfect example. The squating Gothic chimeras...
