Couple of Chairs Designed by Pierre Guariche for Meurop

About the Item

Pair of chairs, design by Pierre Guariche, published by Meurop in the 60s, from the series called "Robert". Frame in black lacquered metal tubing, refurbished to new condition, seats refurbished by a professional upholsterer, stain-resistant fabric with Teflon inside to help liquids slide off without staining. In 1960, Pierre Guariche says: "I got in touch with the Belgian firm, Meurop, which entrusted me with the artistic direction of its factory. The idea was to produce industrially well-conceived, well-designed models - at least as well as possible! - and yet accessible to modest budgets, in other words to mass-produce tasteful furniture at the price of tasteless furniture". This eight-year cooperation with the Flemish industrialist with European ambitions resulted in the design of a wide range of furniture, including these chairs.
