Dining Chair N3221 Junzo Sakakura

About the Item

The dining chair N°3221 was designed by Junzo Sakakura Studio in 1953. Junzo Sakakura, who studied under Le Corbusier, wanted to design a chair that would suit Japanese interiors and lifestyle. One can easily see the inspiration with Jean Prouvé chairs. As many icon chairs, this chair has been redesigned many times until now. Our set is the original version of 1953. The 2nd version was made for the international’s House of Japan 1955, for the house of Fujiyama Aiichiro in 1957 and the upholstery used for the house of Matsumoto Koshiro in 1958. The 3rd one is the one presented at the 12th Triennale in 1960, which has a racquet structure on their legs. At this time, in 1960, Daisaku Cho, who used to work under Junzo Sakakura, redesigned it and made improvements under the name of Persimmon Chair, which has been handed down to the present day. The 4th one is the current model. There were also another one sold at the Habitat of England with lighter wood.
